Workshop "Writing for social science drug and alcohol journals for early career researchers"



Workshop se koná prezenční formou 30. 9. 2025 od 14:00 do 16:00 h v Rytířské 31, Praha 1. Lektoři: prof. Torsten Kolind, Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research, Aarhus University, DK a prof. Karen Duke, Co-Director of the Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, Middlesex University, UK. Dosud jsou volná místa. Přihlášky: tereza.cernikova@vlada.gov.cz

Workshop zajišťuje Odbor protidrogové politiky Úřadu vlády České republiky (OPK), jako doprovodnou událost konference ESSD 2025. Seminář bude v angličtině, bez tlumočení.

Místo konání: Rytířská 31, Praha 1 (budova OSN), zasedací místnost v 1. patře. Dostavte se prosím ve 13:30 h a vyčkejte na recepci na zaměstnance OPK, kteří vás doprovadí do zasedací místnosti.

Title of the workshop: Writing for social science drug and alcohol journals for early career researchers with D:EPP Editors-in-Chief

The purpose of the workshop is to equip drug scholars with the skills and know-how to successfully publish peer-reviewed articles in drug policy relevant journals. The workshop will be relevant for scholars engaged in both qualitative and quantitative research and will be of particular interest to Early Career Researchers. 

The Writing for Journals Workshop will follow the journey of a paper from submission to publication, including discussion of: what makes a good paper, editorial processes, responding to reviewers and revisions, and final product. 

The Workshop will be facilitated by senior experts, with vast publishing and editorial experience. Workshop facilitators are Editors-in-Chief of Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy journal: 

  • Professor Torsten Kolind, Centre for Alcohol and Drug Research, Aarhus University, DK, 
  • Professor Karen Duke, Co-Director of the Drug and Alcohol Research Centre, Middlesex University, UK. 

Participants are welcome to send questions and queries related to publishing papers to the workshop facilitators prior to the workshop; please send them to: tk.crf@psy.au.dk. These questions will then be dealt with at the workshop.

Workshop venue: The workshop will be held at the premises of the Government Office of the of the Czech Republic (Drug Policy Department), meeting room on 1st floor. 

Address of the meeting venue is: Rytířská 539/31 (Rytirska street), 110 00 Prague 1, Czech Republic. 

On-site check-in: Starts on 30st September at 1:30 p.m. at the front desk of the Government Office venue. After registering, please wait for a staff member to accompany participants to the meeting room. The workshop starts at 2:00 p.m. and lasts for 2 hours. 

Refreshments: No refreshments will be arranged by the local organisers. However, shops, cafeterias and restaurants are available in the walking distance to the meeting venue.
