Martin Šebestyán
Minister of Agriculture
Martin Šebestyán was born in Pardubice, where he also graduated from a local grammar school. He completed his higher education at the Faculty of Operations and Economics of the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague, where he graduated in Operations and Economics. Later he expanded his knowledge by enrolling on an MBA program in International Agribusiness. He started his professional career in 1998 in the banking sector as a financial analyst. Subsequently, he worked in the finance department of an engineering company. Since 2000 he has worked at the Ministry of Agriculture
and for the SAPARD Agency, where he specialised in economics, internal auditing and management.
He then moved to the State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SZIF), where he held various senior positions — from Deputy to First Deputy Director and later Director General.
After leaving the public administration, he briefly led Agro Měřín and has been self-employed since the summer of 2024. He also served as Chairman of the Farm and Food Initiative Board from November 2024. His professional interests include institutional management, European funds, internal auditing, public administration
and agricultural policy. He speaks English and specialises in leadership development
and management skills.
