Karel Havlíček
1st Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade
Karel Havlíček is a Czech economist, manager, academic and politician with many years of professional and public experience. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University, holds an MBA degree from the Prague International Business School, a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Economics in Prague, and an associate professor degree from the Faculty of Finance and Accounting of the University of Economics. Professionally, he led the Association of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and Crafts of the Czech Republic and for almost twenty years he steered the Sindat industrial group, where he was also a co-owner. He has been a member of a number of government advisory bodies, including as the Vice-Chairman of the Government Council for Research, Development and Innovation, and he authored the innovation strategy for the Czech Republic entitled "Czech Republic: The Country for the Future". He has served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Industry and Trade and Minister of Transport. In his opposition role, he focused on the economy, he was chairman of the ANO shadow government and is the author of the economic strategy entitled "Czech Republic: The Country for the Future 2.0". He is a long-time teacher, founder of the Faculty of Economic Studies at the VŠFS and author of dozens of specialised publications.
His interests include rock and folk music. He is married and has two children. He actively speaks English, German and Russian. He has passive knowledge of Spanish, French and Chinese.
