Premier Sobotka Emphasizes the Importance of Nuclear Power for the Czech Republic
On 16 June 2014, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka attended the European Nuclear Energy Forum held in Bratislava. At the ninth plenary meeting, Sobotka, his Slovak counterpart Robert Fico, and nuclear energy specialists debated security issues, energy sector investments, and the long-term management and disposal of used nuclear fuel.

On Thursday 5th June the Eurocentre Prague organized a seminar entitled: What will the accession to the Fiscal Compact bring to the Czech Republic? The current government approved the accession of the Czech Republic to the so called Fiscal Compact on 24th March 2014.

Polish Proposal Is a Good Basis for Further Discussion on Energy Security
The Czech Government shares concerns about the energy security in the EU and supports steps towards its strengthening. This is why the cabinet of Prime Minister Sobotka welcomes Polish proposal which was discussed by Government's Committee for EU on 21 May. The objective of the proposal is to deepen the cooperation among EU Member States while ensuring their energy security and creating so-called Energy Union.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has attended the GLOBSEC international forum held in Bratislava, where he and other Visegrad Group representatives debated the security situation in Europe and the need to strengthen cooperation on defense-related issues between V4 countries.

Czech Government refuses to recognise Ukraine “referendum” results
The Government is concerned about the current situation in Ukraine, where referendums on the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions were held over the weekend. The Czech Republic refuses to acknowledge the outcome of the “independence referendums” as it believes that, having been held in contravention of the Ukrainian constitution, they are illegal. Furthermore, the referendums were rife with doubts about the voting method employed and how objective the published results were.

Portugal set to successfully complete aid programme and will require no further assistance
Portuguese Prime Minister Pedro Passos Coelho has announced that the country’s three-year aid programme will draw to a close in May and that no further support in the form of preventive financial assistance would be needed. Portugal is following in the steps of another aid-programme country – Ireland, which enjoyed a successful comeback on the financial markets and wound up its recovery programme in December 2013.
