Prime Minister Sobotka signs EU–Ukraine Association Agreement at European Council
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka attended the European Council in Brussels on Thursday 20 and Friday 21 March. During the summit, leaders of the EU Member States focused on the situation prevailing in Ukraine, and also addressed economic issues such as the boosting of growth, competitiveness and employment, energy policy and climate protection plans.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka visited the Federal Republic of Germany on 13 and 14 March 2014, where he held talks with the Chancellor Angela Merkel, Federal President Gauck and met with the Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy Gabriel.

Prime Minister Sobotka discussed matters with the Polish Prime Minister Tusk
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka visited the Republic of Poland in terms of his second official foreign trip. Together with Prime Minister Tusk, he discussed Czech-Polish cooperation in terms of the Visegrad Four and the whole of the EU, interconnection of the energy market and its security and development of the transport infrastructure. The prime ministers of both countries also dealt with the issue of the condition of the atmosphere in the Moravian-Silesian Region and in Silesia.

The government commenced discussions on the Fiscal Compact
During today’s meeting the members of the government discussed the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union, the goal being to eliminate the Czech exception from the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, and the escalating situation in Ukraine.
