Prime Minister: Czech Republic’s key priorities for discussions on the future of the EU focus on security, prosperity and improving living standards

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with the other Visegrád Group Prime Ministers on 6 September 2016 within the framework of the Economic Forum in the Polish town of Krynica. V4 Prime Ministers were then joined by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr Volodymyr Hrojsman. Later, all V4 Prime Ministers participated in a panel discussion entitled “Central and Eastern Europe – Can we speak in one voice?”

V4 countries support sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine

Representatives of the Visegrád Group and the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Hrojsman issued a joint statement after their meeting in the Polish town of Krynica on 6 September 2016 reflecting conclusions of their talks. The Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the other V4 Prime Ministers expressed in this statement their unwavering support to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, called for full implementation of the Minsk agreements, supported speedy conclusion of the ratification processes for the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement and expressed their readiness to continue in providing aid to Ukraine to support its reform efforts, whether jointly via the International Visegrád Fund and projects there under or under individual bilateral arrangements.

Premier Sobotka met with V4 prime ministers and the German chancellor to discuss trust in the EU and security of European citizens

A second summit of the Visegrad Group during the Polish presidency was held in Warsaw on Friday 26 August 2016. Its guest was German Chancellor Angela Merkel whose appearance came in the wake of her yesterday's official visit to Prague. The main topic of today's summit was the future of the European Union and preparation for a conference of the 27 leaders of Member States that will be held next month in Bratislava.

The debate concentrated on cooperation between Czech and German specialists in the area of applied research and the digital industry.
