Even before the summit, a 16+1 Business Forum was held, jointly opened by the Prime Minister of Latvia Maris Kučinskis and the Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of China Li Keqiang.

Prime Minister Sobotka Pursues Further Development Of Czech-Chinese Trade and Tourism Relations At The 16+1 Summit In Riga

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka has continued to pursue the development of relations with the People’s Republic of China while attending the Summit of 16 prime ministers from Central and Easter Europe and China being held in Riga, Latvia. During its term in office, the coalition government of ČSSD, ANO and KDU-ČSL has managed significantly to improve relations through intensive work. The highlight of these efforts is the establishment of a strategic partnership between both countries, which was conclude this March on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Prague.

Prime Minister met with Swedish State Secretary Salestrand to discuss increased cooperation between the countries in the area of defence and security

On the second day of his working visit, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with the State Secretary to the Ministry of Defence of the Kingdom of Sweden, Jan Salestrand. The common theme of the meeting was the developing cooperation between the CR and Sweden in defence and security and the potential for its further deepening. During the morning programme, Prime Minister Sobotka also met with the President of the City Council, Eva-Louise Erlandsson Slorach.

In Stockholm, Prime Minister Sobotka met with representatives of the unions, the business community and his Czech compatriots

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka continues his two-day working visit to Sweden. After initial talks with Prime Minister Stefan Löfven, he attended a Czech-Swedish business seminar, focusing on the energy sector, and subsequently met with representatives of the Nordic Council of Trade Unions. During the afternoon he met members of the Czech expatriate community and students.

Prime Minister Sobotka held talks with Swedish Prime Minister Löfven on enhancing cooperation in the economic, defence and energy sectors

On Thursday 3 November, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka started a two-day working visit to the Kingdom of Sweden with talks with Swedish Prime Minister, Stefan Löfven. The main topics of the joint meeting included the current status and possible deepening of bilateral Czech-Swedish cooperation, primarily in the areas of the economy, energy, security and defence.

Joint Statement of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic and the Prime Minister of the Swedish Kingdom

At the meeting, both Prime Ministers stressed the importance of effective EU cooperation. Sweden and the Czech Republic are committed to the effective functioning of the EU, which remains the best guarantee for stability, prosperity, economic and social convergence, and security in Europe. To achieve this, the expectations of Europe’s citizens must be met and their concerns must be placed at the centre of common efforts. The fact that the UK is set to leave the Union makes cooperation – both bilateral and at EU level – even more important.

Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister-President Seehofer Opened the Bavarian Exhibition on Charles IV.

On Wednesday, 19 October 2016, the second part of the Czech-Bavarian Land Exhibition – Emperor Charles IV. 1316 – 2016 - was opened in Nuremberg. The opening ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Bohuslav Sobotka, and the Minister-President of Bavaria, Horst Seehofer. The exhibition is held to mark the 700th birth anniversary of Charles IV.
