Statement of the Government of the Czech Republic to mark the 40th anniversary of the publication of Charter 77
On 6 January 1977, Charter 77 was published. It was signed by 241 Czechoslovak citizens, with three people acting as their mouthpiece: the philosopher Jan Patočka, the politician Jiří Hájek and the playwright Václav Havel.

Prime Minister Sobotka thanks Israeli ambassador Gary Koren for his work as his mission in the Czech Republic comes to an end
On Thursday 22 December 2016, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka had an audience with Gary Koren, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel, at the Straka Academy. Prime Minister Sobotka thanked the outgoing Israeli ambassador for his two years of work and mutual cooperation, which made a major contribution to the further reinforcement of Czech-Israeli relations.

Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka’s ten top priorities for 2017
On Wednesday 21 December 2016, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka introduced the ten top tasks he wishes the Government to work at and complete over the remainder of its mandate in 2017. These include the uptake of financial resources from EU funds, the start of construction work on key transport structures, the enactment of a social housing law, the completion of the legislative process for the law index-linking the contributions for persons insured by the state, and continued increases in the minimum wage and public-sector pay. Prime Minister Sobotka also took stock today of the work and tasks accomplished by the Government in 2016.

Agreement by the EU27 on Brexit negotiations
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and other EU leaders met this evening on the periphery of the European Council meeting as the EU27. During informal discussions, the heads of state and prime ministers of the 27 Member States addressed the issue of Great Britain’s departure from the EU. They issued a joint statement on the process of Great Britain’s departure from the EU.

The situation in Aleppo and strengthening European security discussed at the meeting of EU leaders in Brussels
The Prime Minister, Bohuslav Sobotka, represented the CR at the European Council meeting in Brussels. Leaders of the EU Member States discussed the situation in Syria, migration, increasing security and defence and completing the ratification of the association agreement with Ukraine.

V4 Prime Ministers issue joint declaration before the European Council
Prime Ministers of the Visegrad Group met for their customary coordination meeting before the meeting of the European Council. Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico issued a joint declaration in which they expressed their views on further cooperation in migration, security, Association Agreement with Ukraine, and the Digital Single Market.

Prime Minister Sobotka and the Prime Minister Szydlová meet in Český Těšín with representatives of the Polish minority living in the Czech Republic
On Monday 12 December 2016 the heads of government of the Czech Republic and Poland, Bohuslav Sobotka and Beata Szydlová met with the representatives of the Polish minority living around the area of Těšín at the literary café and reading room Avion in Český Těšín.

Prime Minister Sobotka meets with Polish Prime Minister, Szydlová. Topics include the protection of the environment, security and transport
On Monday 12 December 2016, the Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka visited the Polish Republic. At a château in Visla he met with the Polish Prime Minister, Szydlová,with whom he inter alia discussed mutual trade and investment opportunities, protection of the environment and the transport infrastructure. In the afternoon the two Prime Ministers will meet in Český Těšín with representatives of the Polish national minority in the Czech Republic, the largest part of which lives in the Český Těšín region. Prime Minister Sobotka thus continues the endeavour to further strengthen close Czech-Polish relations including support for cross-border cooperation.

The Mayor of Vienna Michael Häupl receives from the hand of Prime Minister Sobotka a medal of Karel Kramář
On Thursday 8 December 2016 Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka awarded a commemorative medal of Karel Kramář to the Mayor of the city of Vienna, Michael Häuplin, in the Kramář Villa. The prime Minister thus granted Michael Häupl a token of appreciation for the long-term prime maintenance of good Czech-Austrian relations.
