Prime Minister Sobotka received the new ambassador of the Republic of Korea and discussed further options for cooperation between the two countries

On Friday 17 February 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka received the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Czech Republic, Seoung-Hyun Moon in the Straka Academy. The Prime Minister congratulated the new ambassador on his new post, while at the same time praising the current excellent level of Czech-Korean relations.

PM Sobotka received the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Božo Petrov, and together they praised the depth of the relations between both countries

On Monday 13 February 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka received the Speaker of the Croatian Parliament, Božo Petrov, at the Straka Academy. The topics for the meeting included the future development of bilateral relations and economic cooperation, support for Czech minorities in Croatia and the position adopted by the two countries with regard to EU enlargement to include the west Balkans. They also addressed the consequences of Brexit for the European Union.

PM met with the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, to discuss the situation in the region and humanitarian and military assistance

On Wednesday 8 February 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Iraq, Ibrahim al-Jaafari, at the Straka Academy. They discussed the current state of the conflict with the so-called Islamic State and possible assistance from the Czech government to help stabilise the country.

Prime Minister Sobotka: The construction of a high-speed railway between Prague and Dresden is a top priority for the CR and for Saxony

On Tuesday 7 February 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met with the Minister President of Saxony, Stanislw Tillich at the Straka Academy. The main topic of the meeting was the deepening of relations between the two countries in the fields of transport infrastructure and economic cooperation. Prime Minister Sobotka and Minister President Tillich also discussed cooperation between the CR and Saxony in the field of science, research and innovation.

Prime Minister Sobotka: EU leaders’ agreement will help to quell illegal migration in the Mediterranean

Today, at the informal summit in Valletta, Malta, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and other EU leaders discussed enhanced cooperation with Libya and the development of partnerships with other North African countries to curb illegal migration in the Mediterranean. In their joint declaration, the Member States’ heads of state and government made the commitment to counter people smugglers, support Libyan border guards and provide assistance in the building of capacities for refugees.

Czech Prime Minister Sobotka and Slovenian Prime Minister Cerar team up to launch the Czech-Slovenian Digital Business Forum

On Monday 23 January 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar together open the Czech-Slovenian Digital Business Forum at the ŠKODA DigiLab in Prague. Attended by representatives of Czech and Slovenian companies from the automotive industry, including Škoda Auto board chairman Bernhard Maier, the forum centred on new trends in automotive industry digitisation and their application in the crafting of new mobility and connectivity services for smart cities.

Prime Ministers Sobotka and Cerar discuss deeper mutual relations between the Czech Republic and Slovenia and the situation in the EU

On Monday 23 January 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar at the Straka Academy. The meeting concentrated on compounding mutual relations between the two countries in trade, investment and economic cooperation The Prime Ministers also touched on the situation prevailing in the European Union and cooperation between Visegrad Group countries and Slovenia.

New Year meeting of Prime Minister Sobotka with diplomats, topics were the global security situation, Brexit and support for exports

The traditional New Year meeting of Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka and the diplomatic corps took place on Thursday 19 January 2017 in the Lichtenstein Palace. At what was their third meeting, the Prime Minister discussed with those present those foreign events which affected Czech diplomacy last year, as well as support for Czech interests abroad. The government was also represented by Michaela Marksová, Minister of Labour and Social Affairs and Miloslav Ludvík, Minister of Health.
