Prime Minister Sobotka honours the victims of the Manchester attack at the British Embassy in Prague
On Wednesday 24 May 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka honoured the victims of the Manchester attack by lighting a candle and laying flowers at the British Embassy in Prague. Subsequently, he expressed his deepest sympathy and support to Jan Thompson, the ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and left a message in the book of condolence.

Prime Minister Sobotka attends a reception held at the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Saxony Liaison Office in Prague
On Tuesday 23 May 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka attended a reception held at the Lichtenstein Palace in Prague at the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the Prague Liaison Office of the Free State of Saxony. The Saxony government led by Prime Minister Stanislaw Tillich used the opportunity to come to Prague for their first out-of-home meeting in the Czech Republic.

Prime Minister Sobotka meets the Prime Minister, the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies, the Grand Duke and Czech compatriots in Luxembourg
On Wednesday and Thursday, 10 and 11 May Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka visited the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. During his working visit, he had talks with Prime Minister Xavier Bethel, Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies M. Di Bartolomeo, and met Czech compatriots and Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg. Prime Minister Sobotka also held talks with SES, a pioneer in space and satellite technology, on possible cooperation with Czech companies. Prime Minister Sobotka was the first Czech Prime Minister in 16 years to visit Luxembourg for an official visit.

Prime Minister Sobotka meets Moldovan Prime Minister Filip
On Tuesday 9 May 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met the Prime Minister of the Moldovan Republic, Pavel Filip, at the Straka Academy. Their discussions covered principally economic and development collaboration and the regional situation. Both Prime Ministers then took part in a Czech-Moldovan Business Forum held at the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Prime Minister Sobotka meets Belgian Prime Minister Michel on European issues and strengthening economic cooperation
On Thursday, 4 May 2017, Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Charles Michel. The topics of their meetings at the Straka Academy were mainly current European issues, business and scientific cooperation and the international situation.

Prime Minister Sobotka meets Bavarian Prime Minister Seehofer
On Wednesday 3 May 2017, Prime Minister Sobotka met Prime Minister Seehofer of the Free State of Bavaria. At the Straka Academy they spoke primarily of reinforcing transport infrastructure, Czech-Bavarian economic relations and collaboration in science, research and education. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Science, Research and Innovation Pavel Bělobrádek.

From May this year, Czech Republic to chair the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe
On 19 May 2017, the Czech Republic will become the presiding country of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. It last presided over this body in 1995. Until 15 November the Committee Chairman will be Foreign Ministry Lubomír Zaorálek.

The EU27 is united before negotiation begin with the United Kingdom
At an extraordinary summit in Brussels on 29 April 2017, the leaders of twenty-seven member states approved a common position for negotiating the UK's departure from the EU. The agreed document fully matches the position of the Czech government.

Prime Minister Sobotka meets Council of Europe Secretary General Jagland
At the Strakov Academy on Friday, 21 April 2017 the Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka received a Council of Europe delegation led by Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland. The topic for the meeting was the Czech Republic's Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which the Czech Republic will take over after 22 years on 19 May 2017 at a meeting of ministers in Nicosia, Cyprus.
