EU leaders discuss migration, European defence and education on the first day of the European Council
Premier Andrej Babiš began his first foreign trip to the European Council in Brussels by negotiating with other V4 leaders about a joint project to protect the Libyan border. Later he met with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk and in the afternoon he spoke at the European Council meeting on the topics of deepening of European defence and education. At a working dinner, the Czech premier emphasized priorities the Czech government will promote in the future architecture of EU migration policy.

Czech PM Babiš agreed with other V4 MPs on a joint project on prevention of illegal migration
Babiš and the heads of governments of the other V4 countries laid the foundations of a joint project to strengthen the protection of borders and to prevent illegal migration in Libya. Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will also join the negotiations of leaders of the Visegrad Group held today in Brussels.

Premier Andrej Babiš introduced seven ministers of his new government in their offices
In the first meeting of the new government on Wednesday, 13 December 2017, premier Andrej Babiš introduced minister of defence Karla Šlechtová, deputy premier and minister of foreign affairs Martin Stropnický, minister of the interior Lubomír Metnar, minister of industry and trade Tomáš Hüner, ministry of labour and social affairs Jaroslava Němcová, minister of health Adam Vojtěch and minister of finance Alena Schillerová in their offices. The premier will introduce other ministers in their ministries on Monday 18 December 2017.

The President Miloš Zeman appointed the government of premier Andrej Babiš
On Wednesday, 13 December 2017, the President of the Czech Republic Miloš Zeman appointed members of the new government at the Prague Castle. Before their appointment, the government honoured the memory of President Masaryk in Lány. After the appointment, the new Cabinet headed to Straka Academy for its first meeting.

Andrej Babiš has been sworn in as the new Prime Minister
On Wednesday, 6 December 2017, the President of the Czech Republic, Miloš Zeman, appointed the chairman of the ANO 2011 movement, Andrej Babiš, premier at the Prague Castle and charged him with forming a new government.

Premier Bohuslav Sobotka met with the President of the Senate of Chile, Andrés Zaldívar Larraín
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka met on 5 December 2017 in the House of Deputies of the Czech Parliament with the President of the Senate of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile, Zaldívar Larraín. They spoke mainly about economic cooperation between the two countries, climate protection, cooperation of the European Union with Chile and the current foreign policy issues concerning Latin America.

Prime Minister Sobotka: We promote a digital public administration model as a service that is easily available to citizens and safe
Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka participated in the Digital Summit of EU leaders on Thursday and Friday, 28 and 29 September 2017. At the informal dealing, the European statesmen dealt with the themes of innovation, cyber security, computerisation of public administration or free flow of data. The informal summit was preceded by a Thursday dinner of the EU state heads and prime ministers of governments, which was devoted to the progress in the European Union reform.

Visit of Myanmar/Burmese state counselor Aung San Suu Kyi postponed
On 29 September 2017, the Czech diplomacy received the information that Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Myanmar/Burma state counsellor, postpones the visit to the Czech Republic, originally planned for October 2017. The reason is the current situation in the Rakhine State and the need for her presence in the country.
