Prime Minister Fiala discusses illegal migration, transportation, and energy cooperation with Austrian Chancellor Nehammer

On Monday, 4 December, Prime Minister Petr Fiala met with Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer in Vienna to discuss the current migration situation in Europe, EU enlargement, the war in Ukraine, and cooperation in transportation and energy. The Czech Prime Minister was also received by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and held discussions with representatives of the Austrian economic sector.

Prime Minister Fiala emphasises the need for nuclear energy development at the COP28 international conference

On 1 and 2 December 2023, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, participated in the World Leader's Summit UNFCCC COP28 in Dubai. At COP28, he delivered speeches at the Triple Nuclear Energy Conference, affirming the further development of nuclear energy, and at the meeting of heads and prime ministers of over 200 states. The conference is under the auspices of the United Nations.

Karel Schwarzenberg to have funeral with state honours, government approved

Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech government and one of the most prominent figures in post-November Czech politics, Karel Schwarzenberg, will be buried with state honours. The decision was made by Prime Minister Petr Fiala through a roll call vote on Friday 1 December 2023.

Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Ethiopia held talks in Prague on strengthening economic and defence cooperation and development aid

Prime Minister Petr Fiala met with his Ethiopian counterpart Abiy Ahmed in Prague on Tuesday 28 November. The leaders followed up on their successful discussions in Addis Ababa at the beginning of November, during the Czech Prime Minister's working visit to sub-Saharan Africa. The main topics of the meeting included strengthening economic cooperation, especially in the areas of water management, healthcare, and mining industries, as well as defense cooperation and the development of developmental aid projects. The prime ministers agreed on the establishment of a Czech-Ethiopian Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation.

The government is fulfilling its policy statement and the Czech Republic is strengthening its long-term LNG energy security

The Czech Republic has taken another crucial step towards ensuring sufficient gas supplies for the future and replacing supplies from Russia. In cooperation with the government, ČEZ Group has contracted long-term annual capacity of 2 billion cubic metres at one of the onshore LNG terminals in Germany. This represents an investment in the further development of the Czech energy sector, and strengthens the energy security of the Czech Republic. The Stade terminal will be located near Hamburg at the mouth of the Elbe River on the North Sea and will be commissioned by its operator, Hanseatic Energy Hub, in mid-2027. The government is thus fulfilling its policy statement, in which it committed itself to seeking a stake in an LNG terminal in a neighbouring country.

The Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala concluded his official sub-Saharan Africa tour in Ivory Coast, where he supported the transport industry

The Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala concluded his successful week-long tour to sub-Saharan Africa on 10 November in Ivory Coast. In Abidjan, he met his counterpart, Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé and other members of the Ivorian government, followed by Vice President Tiemoko Meyliet Koné. During the one-day programme, he supported Czech entrepreneurs at a business forum and also visited the Treichville Hospital, which is equipped with Czech medical equipment.

The Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala discussed defence supplies in Ghana and met Czech doctors participating in the MEDEVAC project

Ghana was the penultimate country visited by the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala on 8 and 9 November during his official tour to Sub-Saharan Africa. In Accra, the Prime Minister met Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, with whom he discussed the development of trade relations, in particular in the power supply, mining and health care, as well as the continuation of defence-industrial cooperation. This has been the first visit of a Czech Prime Minister to this West African country ever. The Prime Minister also opened the Ghana-Czech Business Forum, where he supported Czech companies in entering the local market. At the end of the visit, the Prime Minister met the Speaker of the National Assembly of Ghana, Alban Bagbin.

Prime Minister Petr Fiala supported Czech exporters in Kenya and discussed defence and trade cooperation with President Ruto

Within his official tour to Africa, the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala visited another country - Kenya. He became the first Czech Prime Minister to visit this East African country. On Monday 6 November, he opened the Czech-Kenyan Business Forum in Nairobi, which was attended by more than 100 Kenyan businessmen. The Prime Minister also visited the National Defence College, which has been cooperating with the Czech Army. On Tuesday, 7 November, he held talks with Kenyan President William Ruto, Minister of Defence Aden Dual and other representatives of the army.

On Saturday, 4 November 2023, the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala opened a business forum in Addis Ababa, met Ethiopian Prime Minister Abia Ahmed, visited the Water Museum, a maternity hospital and Bishoftu air base. On his tour to Africa, the Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala wants to open doors for Czech companies, to boost their reputation not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad.
