The government declares state of emergency until 28 March, free movement and retail rules to be tightened from Monday, schools to close again

From Saturday, 27 February, a new state of emergency will apply in the Czech Republic. This was declared by the government for 30 days, i.e. until 28 March, at an extraordinary meeting on Friday, 26 February 2021. At the same time, it has tightened up certain crisis measures and re-confirmed all those that currently apply.

The government will ask the Chamber of Deputies to extend the state of emergency until the end of March

At an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday, 24 February 2021, the government of Andrej Babiš approved a request proposal to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic to extend the state of emergency declared for the territory of the Czech Republic until 31 March. The government also dealt with the proposal for antigenic self-testing of employees in companies and self-employed persons with the financial support of health insurance companies.

From Thursday, people in the Czech Republic will have to wear a respirator or disposable surgical masks in selected public places. The tightening of the extraordinary anti-epidemic measure by the Ministry of Health was approved by the Government of Andrej Babiš at the meeting on Monday, 22 February 2021. It also decided to further extend the Antivirus support program and to provide additional free personal protective equipment for school staff and those at risk of poverty.

The prime ministers of the V4 countries discussed the fight against Covid-19 and mutual cooperation in Krakow

On Wednesday, 17 February 2021, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, attended the V4 Summit of Prime Ministers in Krakow, Poland, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Visegrad cooperation. The guest of the summit was the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. The main topics of the meeting included the evaluation of cooperation within the V4, the fight against Covid-19 and cross-border digital projects.

Government approves draft changes to crisis legislation and pilot project for testing in schools

Cabinet will submit to Parliament three draft changes to the crisis legislation, which respond to experience from the ongoing pandemic crisis. The Andrej Babiš government discussed an amendment to the Constitutional Act on Security of the Czech Republic, a follow-up amendment to the Crisis Act and a proposal for a new Act on Emergency Measures during the COVID-19 Epidemic at its meeting on Monday 15 February 2021.

At the request of regional governors, government declares 14-day state of emergency

At an extraordinary meeting on Sunday, 14 February 2021, the government of Andrej Babiš declared a state of emergency for the Czech Republic due to the spread of the SARS CoV-S coronavirus. It comes into effect on at midnight from the 14th to 15th February and will last 14 days, until 28 February. It thus follows on from the state of emergency which expires at midnight on 14 February.

The government has decided to restrict movement in the three worst affected districts

Stricter rules for the movement of persons will apply from 12 February 2021 to three Czech districts – Cheb, Sokolov and Trutnov, which are currently affected the most by the COVID-19 pandemic. Andrej Babiš’s government decided to introduce these territorial crisis measures at an extraordinary meeting on 11 February 2021. At the same time, it decided to send a total of one million masks from State reserves to the affected areas.

The government asks the Chamber of Deputies for another 30 days of the state of emergency, and wants to simplify the support for enterpreneurs

The government will ask the Chamber of Deputies again for extending the state of emergency by 30 days, i.e. until 16 March. The proposal of the request that will be addressed by the MPs at their Thursday meeting was approved by Andrej Babiš's cabinet at the government meeting on Monday, 8 February 2021.

Government has agreed to temporarily waive VAT on respirators and to extend support for food producers

Sellers will be able to reduce prices on respirators in class FFP2 and higher. On Monday, 1 February 2021, Andrej Babiš’s cabinet charged the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance to issue a decision exempting those products temporarily from the value added tax. The government also endorsed an extension of the Agricovid Food Production subsidy scheme of the Ministry of Agriculture.

From Saturday 30 January, crisis measures aiming to limit the spread of the covid-19 epidemic will partially change in the Czech Republic. The government of Andrej Babiš agreed at this fact at an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, 28 January 2021.
