Prime Minister Petr Fiala commemorates WW2 victims along with victims of the Russian aggression in Ukraine on VE Day

Commemorative acts at the National Memorial on the Vítkov Hill and at the Olšany Cemetery in Prague culminated the celebrations of the 77th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day. On this occasion, Prime Minister Petr Fiala honoured the memory of the heroes who fought for the freedom of the former Czechoslovakia, but also remembered the victims of the war that Russia is currently waging against Ukraine.

Prime Minister Fiala talks energy security and Ukraine with Chancellor Scholz in Berlin

On 5 May 2022, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala met with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier in Berlin. The main topics of the meeting were energy security with regard to the invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation and the global impact of the war. The leaders also discussed joint support for Ukraine, the priorities of the upcoming Czech EU Presidency and Czech-German bilateral co-operation.

Prime Minister Fiala and Polish PM Morawiecki meet in Warsaw to talk energy security and Ukraine

Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala visited Poland on 29 April 2022. He met with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw. They talked about the war in Ukraine and its impact on the European Union and the steps taken by both countries in this context. They also discussed energy security, Czech-Polish co-operation and preparations for the Czech EU Presidency.

Prime Minister Fiala receives Polish President Andrzej Duda in his official residence

On 27 April 2022, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, received Polish President Andrzej Duda, who visited the Czech Republic at the invitation his Czech counterpart Miloš Zeman, at the Kramář’s Villa, the Czech PM’s official residence. The main topics of the bilateral meeting included the war in Ukraine, its impact on the European Union and the steps taken by both countries in response to this conflict.

Digital9+ countries met in Prague to discuss the Transatlantic cooperation in the digital area

Prague, 29 March 2022 – Under the auspices of Deputy Prime Minister for Digitalization Ivan Bartoš and in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic, the informal group of digitally advanced EU countries, so-called DigitalD9+ (D9+), met in Prague. The meeting’s topic was Transatlantic relations in the field of the digital agenda. The delegations agreed, among other things, that the current geopolitical situation calls for a response in terms of increasing the resilience of the digital economy, developing a digital society and strengthening cyber security.

Prime Minister Fiala attended a NATO and European Council summit in Brussels

On 24 and 25 March 2022, Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala attended an extraordinary NATO summit and a European Council meeting in Brussels. The main topic of both meetings was the Russian aggression against Ukraine. The European Council, which was also attended by US President Joe Biden, continued to focus on sanctions against Russia, addressed dealing with the refugee wave, energy and strengthening defense cooperation.

Ministers Langšádlová and Gazdík: RESEARCHIN.CZ offers jobs and support for researchers from Ukraine

On the initiative of the Minister of Science, Research and Innovation Helena Langšádlová and the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Petr Gazdík, a website has been launched to support Ukrainian researchers fleeing the war. The RESEARCHIN.CZ website provides a simple overview of science and research job offers in Ukrainian and English language and is also linked to the pan-European platform Science for Ukraine.

The state agreed to issue a tender for the supplier of a new nuclear power plant in Dukovany

Following the Government's opinion, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MIT) has given its consent to the investor of the new Dukovany Nuclear Power Station unit to issue the tender and invite three bidders, i.e. Électricité de France S.A., Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Company and Westinghouse Electric Company LLC, who passed a safety assessment. At the same time, the MIT invited the investor to issue the tender, which Elektrárna Dukovany II, a.s. (EDUII) did on the same day, i.e. 17 March 2022.

Prime Minister Fiala held a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky in Kiev on further aid and sanctions against Russia

On Tuesday, 15 March 2022, Prime Minister Petr Fiala, together with the Prime Ministers of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki, and Slovenia, Janez Janša, and the Deputy Prime Minister of Poland, Jarosław Kaczyński, visited the Ukrainian capital Kiev, besieged by Russian aggressors, where they met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal. The delegation of politicians expressed their admiration for the courage with which the country is facing the brutal Russian aggression and pledged further humanitarian and material aid.

Prime Minister Fiala attended the informal EU summit in Versailles

On 10 and 11 March 2022, Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala attended an informal meeting of heads of states and prime ministers of the EU hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Palace of Versailles. The main topics discussed were the Russian aggression in Ukraine, ensuring European security, the EU's energy self-sufficiency and a new model for European growth and investment.
